PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for assembling a detent pin to a shift lever easily which can be disassembled after assembling. SOLUTION: A flat portion 11 is formed at the center portion of a detent pin 6 to be attached within a length groove 5 of a hollow shift lever 2. This flat portion 11 has a diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the shift lever 2 and larger diameter than the width of the length groove 5. After this flat portion 11 is placed lengthwise and the detent pin 6 is inserted into the shift lever 2 through the length groove 5, the detent pin 6 is rotated by 90 degrees and the flat portion 11 is placed laterally inside the shift lever 2. This condition is kept by spring force of the spring 7 stored under the shift lever 2.
