PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester hardly causing a mold stain in molding, further causing excellent transparency of bottle. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a polyester by subjecting polyester chips to water treatment in a treating layer, the water treatment is carried out while maintaining the content of sodium in treating water discharged together with the polyester chips from a treating tank at 0.001-10.0 ppm.
