Preparation of a catalyst support for alpha -olefin polymerization comprises reacting a chlorinated organic compound and a pre-mixture of an alkyl magnesium and an alkyl aluminosiloxane and/or alkyl aluminum with one or two electron donors and activating the product using an electron donor activator in suspension in an inert liquid. Preparation of a catalyst support for alpha -olefin polymerization comprises reacting a chlorinated organic compound and a pre-mixture of an alkyl magnesium and an alkyl aluminosiloxane and/or alkyl aluminum with one or two electron donors and activating the product by electron donor activation in an inert solvent. Independent claims are also included for: (a) the above support per se; (b) a catalyst including the above support; (c) the preparation of a catalyst comprising impregnating the above support with a transition metal halide and optionally an impregnation electron donor; and (d) an alpha -olefin polymerization process involving using the obtained catalyst.
