PURPOSE: A backlight unit is provided to minimize the pattern of light guide panel, a wall projection and the bright line of a light incident part. CONSTITUTION: A light guide panel(34) has a corn pattern(34a) to guide the beam via a light incident part(50) uniformly. The interval of the corn pattern(34a) is densely formed according as the corn pattern(34a) becomes distant, so as to guide the beam uniformly. The size of the corn pattern(34a) is in the range of 100 to 500 micrometers and the height of the corn pattern(34a) is in the range of 50 to 900 micrometers. A vertical angle(theta prime) is in the range of 30 to 120 degrees. A prism sheet is used as an optical path converter(36). A diffusion sheet(38) diffuses the beam in the whole region of a liquid crystal panel. A backlight unit uses one of prism sheet and one of diffusion sheet(38) because of the corn pattern(34a) of the light guide panel(34).
