PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To crush air layers and curls generated in sheets stacked on a stack tray and to reduce the up-and-down movement amount of the stack tray for gaining the height of a device. SOLUTION: Sheet holding paddles 10, 11 are provided for holding downward a bunch of sheets stacked on the stack tray 4 and the stack tray 4 is moved down in the state of holding the bunch of sheets by the paddles. After a pawl 7a of a bunched sheet carrying belt 7 is passed on the bunch of sheets, the stack tray 4 is moved up to keep the uppermost face of the bunch of sheets in position.
