PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document database for increasing an incentive to retrieval by stimulating the intellectual couriosity of a retriever, increasing the hit rate of a document, and increasing the satisfaction of the retriever. SOLUTION: As shown in Fig., a company-A document database as a document database skeleton and A, B, and C as document categories are displayed on a screen; when there is lower categories below a category, they are displayed as subordinate categories A1, A2, and A3 of A as shown in Fig. and when there is a document right below A, it is displayed as a document A1. When the category A1 is specified, documents a11, a12, and a13 of the category A1 are displayed. When the document A1 is specified, the document management information field 16 of the document A1 is displayed and when a 'relative document' button 19 is pressed, relation lines 20 is drawn between the relative documents a12 and a21 in the field 16 and the document A1 and to the category A2 since the document a21 is not displayed. When a 'all-outline' button is pressed, all the outlines of the display documents all to a13 are displayed (not illustrated).
