PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system, for the level of a fuel tank, by which the level of a fuel stored inside the fuel tank can be detected economically and with accuracy. SOLUTION: The monitoring system for the level of the fuel tank monitors the level of the fuel stored inside fuel tanks 1, 2. The system is provided with an air purge-type level detection means 11 which comprises a compressor 15 used to supply air, with which the air from the compressor 15 is supplied into the purge pipe 12 of the fuel tank through an air supply passage 14 and by which the level of the fuel stored inside the fuel tanks 1, 2 is detected. The system is provided with a starting means, which is used to start the detection means 11. The system is provided with a detection-operating time-setting means, which sets the detection operating time of the detection means 11 started by the starting means.
