PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems where a conventional image processing unit has had an increased memory capacity because of the need for defining an optimum parameter to increased kinds of read modes and had a decreased execution processing speed for the retrieval processing of an optimum parameter. SOLUTION: By obtaining an optimum parameter of various read modes for a scanner 112 set by an operation section 106 or a PC 118 through an arithmetic operation on the basis of minimum parameters proper reading can be performed, while suppressing the increase in parameter definitions and deterioration in the execution processing speed.
