PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key telephone system that allows a user to smoothly utilize a call waiting service without much feeling an operation load. SOLUTION: In the case that an information reception section 17 detects a call waiting incoming call to a telephone line 11A held by a slave unit A(2A), a master control section 15 calls slave units A, B(2B). When the slave unit B replies this call, the main control section 15 forms an external speech (interruption speech) between the call waiting destination and the slave unit B. When the external line speech is finished, a hooking signal is sent to the telephone line 11A, a master unit 1 holds the telephone line 11A, and outputs a holding alarm to the slave unit A to inform the slave unit A about the end of the interruption speech.
