PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide image recording and reproducing equipment which enables fine supervision. SOLUTION: After an image signal from a video camera 1 is converted from an analog signal to a digital signal, it is organized in a prescribed stream according to a frame, with a stream organizing part 11. After the image signal is subjected to image compression, identification data composed of a scene number, recording time data, etc., are added to each frame, with a format converting part 43. This data signal is recorded in a recording medium 21. When the data signal is reproduced, the image signal is led out with an inverse format converting part 48 and expanded. The image signal is reorganized in a prescribed stream according to the frame with a stream reorganizing part 12, and converted again from a digital signal to an analog signal, which is displayed with a monitor M. The image can be recorded effectively, and check in the case of reproducing is easily enabled.
