PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheets processing apparatus capable of performing a high-efficiency sterilization process at a low cost. SOLUTION: The paper sheets processing apparatus is provided with a heating means 49 capable of heat sterilizing paper sheets fed along a paper sheet feed path 15b connecting a slot for receiving paper sheets with a storage part for storing the paper sheets, and an ultraviolet ray application means 36 capable of sterilizing the paper sheets by application of ultraviolet rays, so that the temperature of the heating means is lower than it is if the paper sheets are sterilized by the heating means alone, and so that the ultraviolet ray output of the ultraviolet ray application means is lower than it is if the paper sheets are sterilized by the ultraviolet ray application means alone.
