PURPOSE: A device and a method for automatically setting up the time of video equipment are provided to offer convenience to a user by automatically setting up the present time upon tuning a channel in an automatic channel set-up mode and by receiving the time data via a PIP(Picture In Picture) channel in a manual channel set-up mode. CONSTITUTION: An automatic time set-up device of video equipment comprises tuning units(210,220) for receiving the channels of a main screen and a PIP, a time data storing unit(260) storing the time data of respective channels detected from a time data detecting unit(230), an EEPROM(Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)(270) storing the channels having time data, and a microcomputer(240) setting up the present time. The microcomputer stores the channel data containing time data while searching the entire channels by controlling the tuning units. In an automatic time set-up mode, the channels stored in the EEPROM are set up as PIP channels. Thereafter, time data are detected and stored in the time data storing unit. After channel search, the time data stored in the time data storing unit are compared to the detected time. The time the same as the detected time is set up as the present time. |
