PURPOSE: A quantifying method of the protective ratio for hydroxyl groups of a polymer compound is provided to measure the protection ratio of a hydroxyl group of the polymer compound contained in the sample accurately for a short time without separating the polymer compound from the sample. CONSTITUTION: The protection ratio of a hydroxyl group of a polymer compound is calculated by using a multiple regression calibration curve from near infrared absorption spectra of samples containing the polymer compound composed of the first structural unit and the second structural unit. The multiple regression calibration curve is obtained by regression-analyzing main components of near infrared absorption spectra of plural standard samples. The first structural unit has a hydroxyl group. The second structural unit is obtained by introducing the protective group into the hydroxyl group in the first structural unit. The protection ratio of the hydroxyl group of the polymer compound contained in the sample is quantified with high precision for a short time without separating from the polymer compound.
