PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a size detecting device where the size of a paper as well as the color of an image on the paper are discriminated when the paper is set while a detection sensor is arranged for a saved space. SOLUTION: A copy machine 10 uses an intelligent image sensor 21 as a sensor for detecting a data related to an original. There are provided a ROM 23 in which a reference data for discriminating size and color is stored in advance, and a CPU 24 which compares various data related to the original which is detected by the intelligent image sensor 21 with the reference data stored in the ROM 23 to discriminate the size and color of the original. This configuration saves space for arranging the detection sensor. Since the discriminating process for the size and color of the original is started just after the original is set, a copy paper starts to be fed earlier for shorter copying time.
