PURPOSE: A chip variable resistor is provided to normally rotate a rotating body by enhancing the strength of a joint. CONSTITUTION: A chip variable resistor comprises an insulating substrate(1) having a resistor(2) formed on the insulating substrate and a rotator(5) having a sliding part(9a). The rotator(5) further includes a U-shaped joint(8), a base(9), a top plate(6) which overlap with each other, and a groove(7a) of a driver groove(7). At this time, the groove(7a) is located off a line drawn between the center of the top plate(6) and the center of the width of the joint(8). Therefore, the center of the joint(8) is joined to the top plate(6) with a broad part(6b), so that the joint is improved in strength and hardly twisted or bent when the rotating body(5) is rotated by a driver, the base(9) is precisely rotated, and a slider(9a) is kept free from troubles.
