PURPOSE: A fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display is provided to minimize the contact area of a rubbing roll and gate and bus lines so as to reduce fails caused by poor rubbing and to improve picture quality of an FFS-LCD. CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower substrates face each other, having a predetermined distance between the two substrates. A gate bus line(21) and a data bus line are formed on the lower substrate and arranged in the matrix form to define a unit pixel. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the two substrates and includes liquid crystal molecules having positive dielectric anisotropy. A counter electrode(25) is formed at the unit pixel of the lower substrate. A pixel electrode(27) forms a fringe field together with the counter electrode and includes a body having a frame shape and a comb(27a,27b) that divides the space surrounded by the body and makes a predetermined angle with the gate bus line. The first horizontal alignment film is formed on the inner side of the lower substrate and has a rubbing axis(R) at 45 degrees to the gate bus line. The second horizontal alignment film is formed on the inner side of the upper substrate and has a rubbing axis in anti-parallel with the first alignment film. The comb of the pixel electrode is at an angle of 45 to 85 degrees or 5 to 45 degrees to the gate bus lines.
