PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction resistance and to open or close a cover smoothly by appropriately providing a spherical body in a hinge unit that can freely hold a folding type covering device such as a mobile phone on a device body in the state where the cover is opened or closed. SOLUTION: When a movable disk 5 fitted in a cover hinge cylinder 2a is turned by opening a cover 2 with respect to a fixed disk 4 fitted in a main body hinge cylinder fixed to a device body 1, a spherical body 8f fitted in an opening 4e to be fitted is rolled and separated, against the resilient force of a spring 7, from the state fitted in a predetermined depression 6 formed in the movable disk 5. Further, the spherical body 8f is rolled while it is in contact with the movable abutting end surface 5b and is rolled and fitted in the predetermined depression 6 by the resilient force of the spring 7. In this manner, the cover 2 is freely transferred from the closed state to the open state.
