PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a water leak in piping or the like, enabling a worker to simply and accurately detect water leak at hand, even when inspecting a position hard to access or a position difficult to observe visually, and capable of accurately detecting even a slight water leak. SOLUTION: A light-emitting substance 1, emitting light by reacting with water in contacting therewith, is deposited on a sticking material 2 and this sticking material 2 is stuck on an inspected portion of the piping or the like. After a prescribed period of time has elapsed, the sticking material 2 is peeled off the inspected portion. Whether a water leak exists is detected by visually observing whether the substance 1 emits light.
