PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronous reluctance motor having a radial two-layer slit on a rotor, which is capable of attaining high performance and cost reduction by forming a structure of which the proportion of reluctance torque is large, overall torque is large and the proportion of torque ripple is small. SOLUTION: By setting the maximum WR1 of an interval between the outer periphery and outer-periphery slit 22b of the rotor 22 at 0.7 to 1.3 times a magnetic pole width WS1 in a stator magnetic pole of a stator 21, the synchronous reluctance motor can be provided with high percentage of reluctance torque, large overall torque, and low percentage of torque ripple.
