PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting a degenerated part of an object. SOLUTION: An ultraviolet light B of a specified wavelength which is emitted from an irradiator 4 is poured on an orange A placed on a placement part 2. A fluorescent material D deposited at a degenerated part Ab of the orange A is excited to cause a blue-white fluorescence, reflecting or radiating a specific reflection light C. The reflection light C is measured with a detecting device 5, and a measurement information is outputted to an image processing device 6. A CPU 10 of a control device 9 compares and calculates a measurement information outputted from the image processing device 6 with a comparison information stored in a comparison information storing device 8, to judge presence, size, form, development, and the like of the degenerated part Ab. The judging result is compared with a rank classification information stored in the comparison information storing device 8, for, individual, comprehensive judgement for rank classification of the orange A.
