PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional digital audio broadcasting(DAB) receiver has wrongly detected a transmission mode or has been usable to detect the transmission mode when the amplitude of an envelope signal of a base band signal is fluctuated due to fading or the like because the conventional receiver measures the time length when the amplitude is lower than a predetermined level to discriminate the transmission mode. SOLUTION: A high pass filter 19 is inserted between a detector 10 of a detection circuit 82 detecting a silence signal part 99 and a comparator 13. The time constant of the high pass filter 19 is selected to be nearly equal to the time length of the silence signal part 99 going to be detected. Thus, the DAB receiver is provided in which mis-detection of the transmission mode due to fading or the like hardly takes place.
