PURPOSE: To provide a CMOS type solid-state image pickup apparatus for preventing an electric charge from flowing into an optical black section for stabilizing a black level. CONSTITUTION: The solid-state image pickup apparatus comprises a semiconductor substrate, a light reception section being provided on the surface of the semiconductor substrate where pixels for photoelectrically converting incident light and for accumulating the electric charge are arranged, a light-shielding section that is provided on the surface of the semiconductor substrate while pixels whose light has been shielded are arranged, and a drain that is provided between light reception and light shielding sections and is formed on the semiconductor substrate up to a position that is deeper than the light reception and light shielding sections.
