PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving direction determining device for motion sensor elements clearly determining the moving direction of the motion sensor elements. SOLUTION: This device determining the direction of the moving of the motion sensor elements is provided with a periodic repetition region alternately affecting a first magnetic field in a first zone having a first pitch and extending into a belt shape along motion coordinates describing the movement of the motion sensor elements, a periodic repetition region alternately affecting a second magnetic field in a second zone having a second pitch and extending into multiple belt shapes along the motion coordinates, a first sensor element detecting the effect on the first magnetic filed by the first zone of the motion sensor element, and a second sensor element for detecting the effect on the second magnetic field by the second zone of the motion sensor element. The first pitch of the first zone is expressed as the ratios of odd numbers to the second pitch of the second zone. The ratios of the odd numbers are 1:3, 1:5, etc.
