PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of eliminating a washing step which is carried out so far after a fixing step by bringing a photographic material into contact with a solid complexing agent for silver halide to transfer the complexing agent to the photographic material and reacting the complexing agent with the silver halide by heating. SOLUTION: The method provides an image in an imagewise exposed photographic silver halide material including at least one silver halide emulsion layer and involves developing the silver halide and fixing the residual silver halide by (i) brining the photographic material into contact with a composition containing a solid complexing agent for the above silver halide in the presence of enough water to transfer the complexing agent to the surface of the photographic material and (ii) reacting the complexing agent with the silver halide by heating to make the silver halide substantially transparent.
