PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium which has no shifted or disappeared signals written even in high density and is excellent in productivity. SOLUTION: As a non-magnetic base 1, aluminum alloy, tempered glass, crystallized glass, etc., can be used. A NiFe alloy, a Sendust (FeSiAl) alloy, etc., can be used as a soft-magnetic back lining layer 2. An intermediate layer 3 is used to magnetically separate the soft-magnetic back lining layer 2 and the magnetic recording layer 4, and a non-magnetic element or a non-magnetic alloy is used suitably. The magnetic-recording layer 4 consists of a rare-earth- elements-transition-metals alloy amorphous film. When forming the magnetic- recording layer 4, the gas pressure for membrane formation is preferably adjusted to 10 mTorr or higher but 200 mTorr, or preferably 20 mTorr or higher but 100 mTorr or lower. Currently used material can be used for the protection layer 5 and the fluid lubrication agent layer 6.
