PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cooling efficiency for a piston 7 in a uniflow two cycle internal combustion engine constituted of an exhaust valve 11 on a top part of a cylinder 3, a scavenging port 8 opening in the cylinder 3 when the piston 7 reaches near a bottom dead center, and a scavenging chamber 15 for distributing compressed air from a supercharger to the scavenging port. SOLUTION: A first cooling water jacket 12 surrounding the cylinder is provided on a lower side part of the cylinder 3 lower than the scavenging port 8, and a second cooling water jacket 13 surrounding the cylinder is provided on an upper side part of the cylinder upper than the scavenging port 8. Thus, the cooling water flows from the first cooling water jacket 12 to the second cooling water jacket 13.
