PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize the type of data to be dealt with by equipment connected to an IEEE1394 type network from the other side equipment connected to the network. SOLUTION: At the time of controlling equipment connected through a digital communication bus capable of performing digital data communication, the transmission of a first command to inquire for the device type of the other party equipment connected through the digital communication bus and the transmission of a second command to inquire for a stream type to be dealt with by the equipment of the device type is executed, and the device type of the equipment and the stream type are recognized from a response to those first and second commands.
