PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the wear resistance of a surface of a connecting rod, to prevent any fatigue fracture caused by cracks in a welded part between members, and also to improve the reliability of a compressor for refrigeration. SOLUTION: In the compressor for refrigeration which converts the rotational motion of a motor unit 2 into the reciprocating straight motion and transmits it to a piston 8 by using the connecting rod 9 which integrally joins a rod member 11 to a spherical member 10 fitted to a spherical support part 8a of the piston 8 in an oscillating manner and a ring member 12 with a crankshaft 6 rotatably fitted thereto by spot welding, the spherical member 10, the rod member 11 and the ring member 12 are formed of low carbon mild steel containing 0.15% or less carbon, and a surface hardened layer 15 by nitriding is formed on the connecting rod 9.
