PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a peripheral drive circuit built in a display device. SOLUTION: A pixel array part 4, a vertical drive circuit 5 to successively select each pixel P via gate lines G, and a horizontal drive circuit 6 to write a picture signal on the selected pixel P via signal lines S are arranged on the same substrate in the display device. The vertical drive circuit 5 is provided with at least shift registers S/R which have one stage corresponding to two gate lines G and successively output a shift pulse in each stage, gate circuit parts 5g which sample a clock pulse supplied from the outside according to the shift pulse, generates a drive pulse, outputs it to each gate line G and successively selects a pixel P, and a shaping means 5z which shapes the clock pulse previously by a horizontal blank pulse supplied from the outside synchronizing with a horizontal blank period and supplies the shaped clock pulse to the gate circuit parts 5g.
