Adjusting arrangement for a backrest of a vehicle seat

The backrest is locked in the raised travel position by a lock (12) having interacting detent connections. Operating actuators (14) are provided for at least one seat foot lock (16) which can be unlocked to release the seat. A safety lock control lever (28) ensures that the seat foot lock cannot be unlocked whilst the backrest is in the travel position. Preferably when the seat foot lock is unlocked the backrest is automatically locked in the table position. The backrest can be designed to swivel through an angle of 180 degrees between the table position and a reclining position folded away from the seat beyond the travel position.
