PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a discharge lamp having high luminance and a long life. SOLUTION: In this discharge lamp 100, a pair of mounts 13, 14' are sealed in both end parts of a glass tube 10. An expanded part 22 is formed at the tip of a lead wire 4' by applying additional processing to the mount 14', as a method for holding the mount 14' on the exhausting side. After inserting the mount 14' in the glass tube 10, a first bottleneck part 23 is formed by forming it to hang the expanded part 22, and a bead glass 5' part is positioned at a prescribed position 12 of the glass tube 10. In this way, the outer diameter of the metallic electrode 3' of the mount 14' can be designed so as to make it as large as possible, and thereby, the performance of the discharge lamp manufactured is enhanced.
