PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image forming apparatus capable of preventing an image defect caused by electrostatic noise with simple constitution. SOLUTION: By grounding a butting member 30 to a metallic frame body 22 through a conductive clip 32 and an energizing spring 31, triboelectrification is discharged even though it is caused since the member 30 slides in contact with a platen glass 14 when an original reading unit 18 is moved. Therefore, the occurrence of the electrostatic noise caused by sliding at the time of scanning an original is restrained, and high-speed image reading with high image quality is realized without making the reader large, complicated and expensive.
