The installation for holding pigs in a stall (1,2a,2b) comprises a grid (15) for accommodation of an animal and a trough (14) with a base and upright walls beneath the grid for excrement collection. The trough has at least one discharge aperture (17,23,24) for removal of excrement and extends within a limiting surface limited by fictitious endless, straight limiting lines partly coinciding with a front edge, a rear edge and two side edges of the trough. Within the limiting surface, apart from the at least one discharge aperture, at least one through passage (20) is provided for feed of air from the under side of the trough to the upper side of the grid. At least one through passage has an opening in the base of the trough.
