PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a toner having a sharp particle size distribution, excellent coloring power and coloring efficiency, containing a pigment uniformly and finely dispersed in toner particles, and having excellent electrostatic properties. SOLUTION: A pigment dispersing agent has a porphyrin skeleton X adsorbing on a pigment and a substituent Z containing at least a reactive group Y which yields a radical, an anion or a cation upon dissociation. A monomer composition comprising the pigment dispersing agent and a polymerizable monomer is added to a reaction medium comprising an organic solvent and a polymeric dispersion stabilizer, and the polymerizable monomer is dissolved and polymerized to yield toner particles.
