PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a portable radio apparatus more small-sized and lightweight while maintaining excellent antenna characteristics. SOLUTION: A coating part 10A covering an antenna element 17 provided at a distance longer than a predetermined wavelength from a substrate 15 is provided with a through part 11 of a predetermined size between the antenna element 17 and substrate 15, and the coating part 10A or a light emission lamp 12 nearby it is irradiated by LED elements 21 to 23 to illuminate, thereby making the portable radio apparatus small-sized and lightweight through the through part 11. At the same time, the state of the antenna element 17 is unchanged as compared with a drawn-out and stored type antenna, so excellent antenna characteristics can be maintained in both standby mode and calling state and the radio apparatus can be made more small-sized and lightweight.
