PURPOSE: A method for discovering network devices and a system thereof, particularly concerned with the architecture for discovering various devices in a network environment and deciding relationships between the devices are provided to automate predetermined works and maintain a current database of information related to all devices within a network by monitoring the devices and communication links between the devices. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of devices within a network are identified(302). Connection information related to the plurality of devices is identified(304). Spanning information related to the identified devices is identified(306). Links between the plurality of devices are identified by using information included in a spanning tree(308). A physical network topology is calculated(310). The calculated physical network topology is calculated in a storage device(312). Representation of the physical network topology is generated by using the stored network topology data(314).
