PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress variation in the density of an image in the main scanning direction. SOLUTION: A solid pattern (a) for test is printed and the recording area is divided into a plurality of blocks depending on the number of print lines. Density of each block is measured while averaging in the subscanning direction, and density profile data (b) representing density variation of the image in the main scanning direction is formed for each block. Based on the density profile data (b) thus formed, density correction profile data (c) for correcting unevenness in density of the image in the main scanning direction is formed. A density correction data table where each block is made to correspond with the density correction profile data (c) is formed and prestored in a printer.
