PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having a surface structure to effectively prevent the suction with a magnetic head. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has; at least a disk substrate 1; a magnetic recording layer 5 formed with a predetermined uneven pattern on the disk substrate 1; and a non-magnetic layer 6 formed in a recess part of the uneven pattern. A convex shape which comprises nonmagnetic substances is formed on the magnetic recording layer 5 or the non-magnetic layer 6, and the width of the top face (W1 or W2) of the convex shape is made smaller than the pattern width W5 of the magnetic recording layer 5 or the width W6 of the recess part in which the non-magnetic layer 6 is formed, for example, the mound shape is made. Thereby, the suction of the magnetic recording medium and the magnetic head which surfaces thereon and reads or writes the magnetic recording information can be prevented.
