PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of easily determining the shape of a stopper in accordance with the required fixing strength of an optical fiber when the optical fiber is to be fixed using the stopper. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 10 is fixed by engaging a stopper 30 to a covering section 14 of the optical fiber 10. The shape setting of the stopper 30 is conducted so that the compression strength which is obtained by multiplying an engaging area SB of the stopper 30 among the covering section 14 by the compression strength of the covering section 14 and the pulling strength which is obtained by multiplying a non-engaging area SA of the stopper 30 among the covering section 14 by the pulling strength of the covering section 14 become equal to or greater than a desired fixing pulling strength F.
