PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device suppressing generation of striation and preventing danger of electric shock. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device is equipped with a rectified DC power source DC, a DC-DC conversion circuit BCU outputting DC voltage exceeding raised and smoothed 300 V, a DC-AC conversion circuit DAC converting DC voltage outputted from the DC-DC conversion circuit BUC to high frequency AC voltage, a load circuit LC containing a discharge lamp connected between output terminals of the DC-AC conversion circuit DAC, a dimmer DM of the discharge lamp, and a resistor R1 having such a resistance value that when a resistor of 1 KΩis connected between the output end on the high voltage side of the load circuit and an earth in a no load, current flowing through the resistor of 1 KΩis 1 mA or less and when a light control ratio of the discharge lamp in no load is 25%, DC voltage of 1 V or more is applied to the discharge lamp, and connected between the output end of the DC-DC conversion circuit and the high voltage side of the discharge lamp.
