PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that enables a user to immediately recognize a document as an object of recovery even when there are a plurality of documents in a sheet-through-document feeder by providing the sheet-through-document feeder with display units so that the user can know which document can not be read owing to a jam in such a case. SOLUTION: The image reader that makes a user recognize a jamming document if the document jam occurs during a document read through the sheet-through-document feeder enables the reader to immediately recognize the document to be recovered for a read in the sheet-through-document feeder by providing the sheet-through-document feeder with the display units 41 to 46 so that which document can not be read owing to the jam can be discriminated.
