<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image writing apparatus which can precisely position at a writing position even a display recording medium of various sizes or a display recording medium having a plurality of image display recording areas. <P>SOLUTION: A positioning mark detection sensor 27 is used to detect a positioning mark 100c provided to a display recording medium 100 relative to the display recording medium 100 transferred to the writing position, stopping the rotation of transfer rollers 13A, 13B at the detected timing. Then, an electromagnetic solenoid 26 is activated to press the display recording medium 100, forcedly stopping the transfer of the display recording medium 100 to set the display recording medium 100 at the writing position.
