<p>The liquid metal is passed continuously through a nozzle which has a cross section several times that of the final wire. The decrease in cross section of the wire to the final dimension is obtd. by placing the nozzle exit in a chamber filled with a gas which has a pressure near that which the liquid metal exerts on the exit. The wire is cooled and coiled. Cooling is accelerated by continuous circulation of the gas through the chamber. The wire is further cooled by a water spray during coiling. Several nozzles may be used, when each wire is coiled separately or wires are coiled in groups to form cords or strands. Suitable for wire of Al, Cu, Fe, metals of low as well as high m.pt. e.g. steel.</p> |
