PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying compounds which associate with an RNA cap binding pocket of an influenza virus RNA dependent RNA polymerase subunit PB2 polypeptide or an RNA cap binding pocket of a PB2 polypeptide variant.SOLUTION: The method for identifying test compounds comprises: (i) bringing a polypeptide fragment or a recombinant host cell into contact with a test compound; and (ii) analyzing the ability of the test compound to bind to PB2. The polypeptide fragment is derived from the PB2 or a variant thereof and is associatable with the RNA cap or an analogue thereof, and the polypeptide fragment includes polypeptides having alignment with or correspondence to amino acid sequences of a specific portion of PB2 according to the sequence numbers from 1 to 3 and polypeptide variants having the ability to associate with the RNA cap or an RNA analogue thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: None
