1452165 Al-Ti-B grain refiner ALUMINIUM PECHINEY 3 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 14773/74 Headings C7A and C7D An Al-Ti-B alloy of composition:- comprising a matrix having a preponderant proportion of grains of less than 30 microns in size and having fine Ti B 2 crystals of average size substantially 1 micron the majority of which are dispersed along the grain boundaries of the matrix. The alloy may be in granulate or fine powder form and may be prepared by mixing molten aluminium with cryolite containing TiO 2 (e.g. at 1050‹C) adding Boron oxide to the mixture and casting from 900‹C into water. The alloy may be used as a grain refiner for aluminium alloys. |
