<p>Naphthoquinone and phthalic anhydride are recovered from the gaseous prod. of the catalytic oxidn. of naphthalene in the vapour phase by rapidly cooling the oxidn. gas to a temp. below its dew pt. by contacting with liq. naphthalene, maintaining it in the liq. phase, then contacting the cooled prod. with liq. naphthalene to recover the desired prods. as a soln. in naphthalene. The concn. of naphthoquinone and phthalic anhydride in the liq. phase during cooling is pref. is not >60 wt.% and in the soln. recovered in the second stage pref. 20-60 wt.%. The liq. temp. during cooling is pref. 80-120 degrees C.</p> |
