1423627 Elastomeric springs FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO 21 May 1973 [14 June 1972] 24218/73 Heading F2S A compression spring comprises a body 22 of elastomeric material having an axis 34 and being reinforced against lateral expansion under axial compression by circumferentiallyextending and resiliently expansible cord ply material 23, the cross-sectional area of the body 22 reducing at one axial end at least. The body may be cylindrical, Fig. 2, frustoconical, Fig. 11 (not shown), barrel-shaped, Fig. 12 (not shown), or oval, Fig. 13 (not shown), and may have an axial bore 35. The reducing cross-section may be frustoconical 29, 30, Fig. 2, arcuate 41, 51, Figs. 6 and 7 respectively (not shown), or relieved outwardly from the axis 61, Fig. 8 (not shown). The cord ply material 23 may comprise a plurality of reinforcing layers 24, 25 of parallel cords 26 extending at an angle to the axis 34 of the body 22, Fig. 3 (not shown). |
