<p>Derivs. of formula (I): (where R is 1-18 C alkyl, cycloalkyl; or aralkyl; R1 is H, OH, halogen or NH2; and X (I) is a gp. -(CH2)n-Y-(CH2)m in which Y is opt. branched 1-4 C alkylene, arylene, cycloalkylene, O or S, and m and n are 0-16; m + n being is not >18) are new cpds. which may be prepd. by reacting a dihydroxybenzophenone of formula (II) with a cpd. of the formula: Hal-X-Hal (III), (where Hal is Cl or Br). (I) are useful as photostabilisers for polymers. They combine good photo stabilising props. with reduced volatility and good compatibility even with non-polar polymers such as polypropylene and polyethylene.</p> |
