Heading C1A SO 2 is removed from gases by contact with an aqueous alkali metal or ammonium sulphite solution containing a chelating agent selected from ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, 1,2-diaminocyclohexane tetraacetic acid, N-oxyethylenediamine triacetic acid, ethylene glycol bis-(#-aminoethylether) tetraacetic acid, ethylenediamine tetrapropionic acid, their alkali metal and ammonium salts and mixtures thereof. The solution may contain a mixture of normal and bi-sulphites of Na, K, or NH 4 , in a concentration of 20-65% by wt. The concentration of the chelating agent may be 50-2000 p.p.m. The process may be carried out at room temperature to 110‹ C.</p> |
