<p>An agitator for mechanically treating a system of a liq. phase and a gas phase in contact consists of a shaft driven by a motor and carrying at least one helicoidal fin and baffle. It is mounted at the gas-liquid interface, the height of which may be variable and projects the liq. into the gas phase as a sheet or as dispersed jets. The helicoidal fin may have a straight or curved profile, it may be continuous or discontinuous and its width may be constant or may vary. The surface may be whole or perforated and may have projections on its upper face. There may be an edge which can have notches cut in it and there may be a ferrule surrounding the fin with holes at the top. The baffle may be flat or conical with the base upwards and it may be mounted on a thread on the shaft with a lock nut, so that its height may be varied. The agitator is useful for chemical reactions, absorbing a gas into a liq. waste water oxygenation heat exchange e.g. cooling or stirred liq. mixing liquids of different densities, destruction of surface emulsions, wetting of powders or materials floating on the liq. surface.</p> |
